5 Encouraging Devotional Prayers to Start Your Day
Putting Jesus first in your daily routine can be extremely hard. One of the biggest ways that you can make it a point to prioritize your faith even with a busy schedule is starting your day with a devotional prayer.
The concept of a daily devotion is probably familiar to you, but very rarely do we hear the term "devotional prayer." A devotional prayer is the same concept as starting your day with a short passage of scripture or teaching, except its centered around a specific prayer. Scripture is clear about the importance of spending time alone with Jesus.
Matthew 6:6 says:
By starting your day, or making it a point in your day to spend time in prayer with Jesus, you are being intentional in making our faith a priority in your life.
Here are 5 devotional prayers to help jumpstart your day:
1. Prayer for Wisdom
"If any of you needs wisdom, you should ask God for it. He will give it to you freely." James 1:5
Godly wisdom for the decision making, hardship, and events of life is crucial. Pray and ask God to give you wisdom for your day so that you can conduct yourself and your decisions in a way that is pleasing to Him.
"Dear Jesus, thank you for being the Wonderful Counselor.
Thank you for your Word and Jesus Christ who is the power and
wisdom of God according to 1 Corinthians 1:24.
I want to ask specifically for wisdom today, so that I can make sound decisions.
May Your wisdom live in my heart so people around me can see You in every move I make.
Amen."
2. Prayer for Peace
"Dear Jesus, life is hectic right now.
I know that You provide peace in times of chaos, and clarity in times of confusion.
You spoke calm to the storm and the winds ceased (Mark 4:35-41)
I come to you today to ask specifically for the supernatural calmness
that only you can provide. Please quiet my soul and mind
and help me fix my eyes on You and Your Word.
Amen."
3. Prayer for Strength
There are often times where sin and worldly desires may try and get the best of your heart and mind. Scripture tells you many times that you can find strength in your Heavenly Father. Pray for God to give you strength and courage to make it through your day.
"Dear Jesus, thank you for being sovereign.
I need Your strength.
I know that apart from You, I can do nothing, but with You,
I can do all things through You.
Give me the strength and courage to make it through today
so that I can serve You and be Your light in this dark world.
Amen."
4. Prayer for the Future
"Dear Jesus, thank you for creating me.
Thank you for having a plan for me before I was even conceived.
Your plans give me a hope and a future.
I know that You are in control, and I release my need for clarity
and replace that with trust.
Will you help me trust You and remain confident in You?
In Jesus' name, Amen. "
5. Prayer for Joy
In the midst of life's many trials, circumstances, events, and unknowns, joy can be hard to obtain and sustain. In James 1, you are reminded that even though trials will come, you can have joy because of the ability to persevere in Christ Jesus. When the enemy is trying to steal your joy, pray and ask God that He will reveal Himself to you and help you find joy amidst whatever you are faced with.
"Dear Jesus,
Today I feel that the things of this world are overshadowing my faith in You.
I know that in You I can always have joy. I know that despite trials and
tribulations, I can remain confident because of you.
God of Hope, I ask that you fill you me with all joy and peace
as I trust in you according to Romans 15:13.
Thank you for sending your Son.
Amen. "
